Anaconda Fire Department along with multiple other agencies in will be participating in a multiple casualty injury drill on Friday August 19th 0800-1200
It will involve a hazardous material release into Warm Springs Creek near Washoe Park triggered by a bus wreck. Units from Anaconda Fire Department, West Valley Fire Department Opportunity Fire Department, Anaconda Police Department, Deer Lodge County Coroner’s office, Powell County EMS, Deer Lodge County Search and Rescue, Life flight Network Community Hospital of Anaconda will participate with true patient movement. The drill will contain a scenario in which a bus load of students returning home accidently discharges a full can of bear spray causing the bus to crash with injuries multiple injuries to students, with fuel leaking into the creek as well as fire in the engine compartment of the bus. The goal is to mitigate the environmental hazard, fire suppression, product containment, medical treatment of pediatric patients and transport to the hospital. Area hospitals will exercise their ability to manage and triage an overwhelming number of patients impacted by the event.
You may notice staging of equipment at various places throughout the county, as well as Life Flight Landing in Washoe Park, fire apparatus and ambulances driving from the simulated crash site to community hospitals.
The exercise provides another opportunity for numerous local and regional agencies to train and interact as a cohesive team in order to better serve the community.
